If you’ve never booked a professional makeup artist before, it can feel a little intimidating—what to expect, how to prepare, and what the experience will actually be like.
Every artist has a different approach, which is why finding someone who feels aligned with you matters. As a makeup artist in Chicago, I want my clients to feel confident, comfortable, and completely taken care of from start to finish. I believe getting your makeup done should be a calm, fun, elevated experience. Here’s exactly what you can expect when booking your appointment.
The Booking Process
Once you reach out or book online, you’ll receive a confirmation along with any details you need to prepare for your appointment. Depending on the service, this may include skin prep guidance or timing recommendations.
Before Your Appointment
Healthy, prepped skin makes all the difference. I always recommend:
- Arriving with a clean, makeup-free face
- Avoiding new or harsh products right before your appointment
- Letting me know about any skin sensitivities
- Staying well hydrated
- Prioritizing sleep and rest (as much as possible—I know how events can be)
If you’re feeling unsure about your skin, you’re not alone—and I’m here to help. As a licensed esthetician, I can guide you toward healthier, more balanced skin.
Booking your makeup appointment in advance also gives us the opportunity to work together 1:1 in the months leading up to your event.

During Your Appointment
Your appointment is a collaborative experience. We’ll talk through:
- Your desired look (natural, soft glam, full glam, etc.)
- Your skin type and preferences
- Any inspiration photos you’d like to share
My goal is always to enhance your natural features while making sure you still feel like yourself. I’ll guide the process and adjust as we go to ensure everything aligns with your vision.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the experience.

After Your Appointment
Your makeup will be set for longevity, but I’ll also give you tips on:
- Touch-ups (if needed)
- How to maintain your look throughout the day or night
- Product recommendations, if you’d like to recreate the look
Why Hiring a Professional Matters
Professional makeup isn’t just about how it looks—it’s about how it wears, how it photographs, and how it holds up throughout your entire event.
My role is not just to apply makeup, but to create a look that feels like you—elevated, long-lasting, and effortless.
